Potter County Real Estate


The County Seat of Potter County is Amarillo, Texas.  The County was named for Robert Potter, a Republic of Texas politician and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.  The quality of life in Potter County real estate is characterized by a strong sense of community that is strengthened by a rural lifestyle.  Assets of Potter County identified by residents include: peace and quiet, friendliness of the people, wonderful local produce and foods, terrific weather and a rural setting where you can still see the stars.

There are four adjacent counties - Carson County, Moore County, Oldham County and Randall County.  The major cities and towns within the county are Amarillo, Bishop Hills and
Bushland.  There are seven major Interstates/Highways that run throughout Potter County: I-27, I-40, US Hwy 60, US Hwy 87, US Hwy 287, State Hwy 136 and State Hwy Loop 335, which grant easy access into and out of Potter County real estate.

Potter County's History
Potter County real estate began in 1876, when 250,000 acres were fenced to create the Frying Pan Ranch.  Where the Santa Fe, Denver and Fort Worth Railways met, lots were given to 60 cowboys in 1887; forming the county seat.  This made them property owners and partisans in the county seat election.

Potter County real estate was named for a fugitive card shark and poet named Robert Potter because of his service to the Republic of Texas.  Before coming to Texas, he had served as a midshipman in the US Navy.  Potter had become a lawyer and served in the North Carolina legislature and the US House of Representatives.

In 1900, Potter County real estate was an agriculturally-based society.  Rapid population growth has continued to occur in and around the city of Amarillo and in the southern part of Potter County.

Education in Potter County
Students residing in Potter County real estate attend public schools run by four different school districts:
Amarillo Independent School District, Bushland Independent School District, Highland Park Independent School District and River Road Independent School District.  The Amarillo ISD and Bushland ISD oversees schools Potter County as well as portions of Randall County.  Highland Park ISD is based out of Amarillo and River Road ISD serves rural portions of Potter County students.  Potter County also offers many private schools to its residents as an alternative of a public education.

Canyon real estate is the home of West Texas A&M University.

Potter County Activities
There are three large recreation areas in Potter County: Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument, Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and the Sanford Recreation Area.  There are also nine creeks and eight lakes/reservoirs for the public to enjoy amongst Potter County real estate.

Additionally, each city in Potter County has their own way of embracing what makes them unique.  For instance,
visitors to Amarillo can choose to stop by the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Don Harrington Discovery Center, Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo Museum of Art, Amarillo Botanical Gardens and much, much more.  It's easy to see why so many people come to Potter County real estate every year.
